Identification
The obligation to identify
The identification of domestic animals by tattoo or microchip is obligatory. The modalities of application are represented mentioned below:
At the dogs:
For all dogs of more than 4 months old and been born after January 8th, 1999
For the dogs been born before January 8th, 1999, the obligation of identification is applied:
at the time of cession (even free)
in the departments which would be declared contaminated by rage (no nowadays) and with antirabique vaccination (Moselle)
to participate in competitions and exhibitions
for stays in campings and holiday centres
for any exit except borders of Continental France (therefore also towards Corsica or DOM-TOM)
for the dangerous said dogs according to the law of 1999
At the Cats:
- at the time of cession (even free)
- in the departments which would be declared contaminated by rage (no nowadays) and with antirabique vaccination (Moselle)
- to participate in competitions and exhibitions
- for stays in campings and holiday centres
- for any exit except borders of Continental France (therefore also towards Corsica or DOM-TOM)
Attention for all identified animals, it is necessary to inform the central file of any change of situation of the animal as:
- owner's change
- move
- decease
Means to identify:
1. Tattoo
Played or in the ear or inside the thigh, it requires an anaesthesia of the animal. His advantage is that he can be read by everybody unfortunately it is often difficult to read with certainty figures and letters at the end of some years. THIS type d (identification will not be any more acknowledged beyond 2012.
2. Identification by microchip
